After nearly two decades as an educator, Anwar started Bridge Equity Education to support educational organizations create excellence and equity for their respective communities.
As Founder/CEO of Bridge Equity Education, Anwar consults with multiple schools and also is a facilitator with UnboundEd and SchoolKit Group. Prior to Bridge Equity Education, Anwar was principal of Explore Upper School, part of the Explore Schools network in central Brooklyn. As Principal of Explore Upper, he turned around a school which had five principals during the previous five years. During his tenure, the school increased proficiency on the New York State ELA and Math exams by 20% and 30%, respectively, decreased suspensions and time out of class and increased enrollment and student retention. In 2018-2019, the school’s SUNY authorized charter was renewed for a full five years and became a New York State Recognition School. Prior to joining Explore, Anwar was a school leader at Aspire Schools in Oakland and Democracy Prep Public Schools in New York, City.
Anwar began his education career as a New York City Teaching Fellow and has taught multiple subjects in both elementary and middle school. He holds a BA in Political Science from Columbia University and an MS in Educational Leadership from Brooklyn College. He lives with his wife Amber and their son Warith. He enjoys cross training, cycling, reading, rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers and listening to a diverse selection of good music.
